The Jewels are pictures of rocks, piles of them. They are the scene of an execution by pressing. As St. Margaret Clitherow was sentenced to die for her beliefs, so too are those who, for whatever reason, cannot bear the burdens life places on them, who are felled as so much collateral damage while going about living. The Jewels is an indictment of us and a call to our compassion.
